Accessibility
Last updated June 13, 2026
We want PDFER to be usable by everyone, including people who rely on assistive technology. Accessibility is an ongoing commitment, not a one-time checkbox.
Our standard
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. PDFER is in active development (Beta), and while we work toward full conformance, some areas may not yet fully meet every criterion.
What we do today
- Keyboard navigation.Interactive controls are reachable and operable with a keyboard, and a “Skip to content” link lets you bypass the navigation.
- Screen-reader support. We use semantic HTML, ARIA labels on controls and menus, and hide purely decorative icons from assistive technology.
- Visible focus. Focusable elements show a clear focus indicator so keyboard users can track their position.
- Responsive, zoom-friendly layout. The interface reflows for small screens and tolerates browser zoom and increased text size.
- Colour and contrast. We aim for sufficient contrast between text and background and do not rely on colour alone to convey meaning.
Known limitations
Some tools involve rich, visual interactions (for example drag-to-reorder pages, on-canvas editing, and region selection for redaction or cropping). These can be harder to operate without a pointing device, and we are actively working to improve their keyboard and screen-reader experience. If a specific task is blocking you, please contact us — we will help you complete it and prioritise a fix.
Compatibility
PDFER targets current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari) on desktop and mobile, used with their built-in or common assistive technologies.
Reporting a barrier
If you encounter an accessibility barrier, or need a feature provided in a different way, email accessibility@pdfer.cc. Please tell us the page, the assistive technology and browser you were using, and what went wrong. We aim to acknowledge reports promptly and will work with you to provide the information or function you need.
