How to merge PDFs on an iPhone or iPad

To merge PDFs on an iPhone or iPad, open the Files app, tap Select, choose the PDFs, then tap the More (…) button and choose Create PDF — Files saves one combined document. If you need to set the page order first, open Merge PDF in Safari, add the files, arrange them and download the merged PDF; it's built on your device, with nothing uploaded.

Quick steps
- 1Open Merge PDF in Safari on your iPhone or iPad.
- 2Tap to add PDFs from the Files app.
- 3Drag the files into the order you want.
- 4Tap Merge and save the combined PDF to Files.
Using the Files app
Put the PDFs in the same folder in Files. Tap Select (top right, or the … menu), tap each PDF, then tap the More (…) button at the bottom and choose Create PDF. A new PDF appears in the folder.
Files merges in the order the folder is sorted. To control it, sort by Name and prefix the files with 1, 2, 3 before you select them.
Using Merge PDF in Safari
Open Merge PDF in Safari, tap the drop area and choose your PDFs from Files. Drag them into the order you want, tap Merge and save the download to Files.
Everything happens inside Safari on the phone. Very large documents depend on the device's memory, so merge a few hundred pages at a time on older iPhones.
Fix the order or remove pages afterwards
If a page ended up in the wrong place, open the merged file in Organize PDF to drag its pages around, or use Remove Pages to drop the ones you don't need.

Frequently asked
- Do I need an app to merge PDFs on an iPhone?
- No. The built-in Files app can combine PDFs with Create PDF, and Merge PDF works in Safari without installing anything.
- Can I merge photos and PDFs together?
- Yes — Files' Create PDF accepts images and PDFs together. In PDFER, convert the photos with JPG to PDF first, then merge the result with your other PDFs.
- Is it safe to merge confidential PDFs on my phone this way?
- Yes. Both Files and PDFER process the files on the device; PDFER never uploads them.
