How to merge PDF files on Windows

By Last updated: 2 min readOrganize PDF

Windows 10 and 11 can view and print PDFs but have no built-in way to merge them. The quickest free method is Merge PDF in Edge, Chrome or Firefox: add the files, drag them into order and download one combined PDF. It runs inside the browser on your PC, so you don't install anything and the files are never uploaded.

  4. 4Click Merge and save the combined PDF.

Why Windows can't merge PDFs on its own

Edge opens PDFs for reading, highlighting and filling forms, and Microsoft Print to PDF turns any single document into a PDF — but neither combines several PDF files into one. That's why most people reach for an extra tool.

Installing desktop software isn't always possible on a work PC, and many websites upload your files to process them. Merge PDF does the work in the browser instead.

Merge PDFs in your browser

Open Merge PDF, drag your files from File Explorer onto the page (or click to choose them), arrange them in the list and click Merge. The combined PDF downloads to your Downloads folder.

Because processing is local, it also works with large files and on networks that block uploads.

Tidy up the merged file

Use Organize PDF to move individual pages, Rotate PDF to fix sideways scans, and Compress PDF if the merged file is too big to email.

Frequently asked

Can I merge PDFs with Microsoft Print to PDF?
No. It prints one document to a new PDF; it can't append several PDF files into one.
Does it work on Windows 7 or 8?
It works in any up-to-date version of Chrome, Edge or Firefox. If your Windows version can't run a current browser, update the browser or the system first.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Merge PDF runs entirely in your browser on the PC; the files never leave it.
