Edit Metadata: how it works

To edit PDF metadata, open the Edit Metadata tool and add your file; you can view and change the title, author, subject, and keywords, then download. Metadata is edited in your browser and the file is never uploaded.

How to use Edit Metadata

  1. Open the Edit Metadata tool and add your PDF.
  2. Edit the title, author, subject, and keywords.
  3. Download the updated PDF.

In your browser vs. uploading to a server

Best for correcting document properties or removing an author's name before sharing a file publicly.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change the title or author of a PDF?

Open the Edit Metadata tool, update the fields, and download; the document properties are rewritten in your browser.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. PDFER runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly and JavaScript. Your files are read into memory on your device, processed locally, and never sent to PDFER or any third party. Closing the tab or leaving the tool erases them from memory.

PDFER is a privacy-first PDF toolkit built by Kiril Urbonas. Every tool runs entirely in your browser — see our security model and privacy policy.
